"The Buildings of England" Group Visits and Tours Programme -- Summer 1967.
"The Buildings of England- Group, directed by Victor Smith, AA. Dipl., ARIBA., have organized for the coming summer (between May and September) a Programme of Day, Weekend and Five Day Tours to buildings and places of architectural and historic interest.
The Tours are open to members of the National Trust, the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, Archaeological Societies and similar bodies. Accompanying the Tours will be specialist Guide-Lecturers in architecture, archaeology, painting etc. drawn from the Panel of the Group and appropriate to the subject of the visit.
Included in the Programme are Day Tours to Woodbridge and Lavenham in Suffolk; The Vyne, Hampshire and Ely Cathedral, a Weekend visiting Haddon Hall and Chatsworth and five Five Day Tours visiting various parts of England. staying in such historic places as Chichester, Wells, Kings Lynn and York and visiting many historic houses including Compton Wynyates, Mottisfont Abbey, Longford Castle and Blickling Hall. A particularly interesting Tour is one following the development, both architecturally and socialogically, of the great English house from the 12th-18th centuries.
The price of the Tours, which is fully inclusive, varies from 39 shillings and 6 pence for a day to £25 for a Five Day Tour. Overnight stays are made in Trust Houses or hotels of equivalent standard.
The Group is also specialising in arranging Tours for the particular requirements of societies, accompanied by appropriate specialist Guide-Lecturers. Amongst current projects are Tours for English, Swedish and German groups.
